Losing trust in social media? Use Direct mail Instead!

Over the last few weeks we have seen Twitter go into meltdown (blue tick anyone?), users losing thousands of followers across Instagram (as well as lower engagement rates), and now Facebook (sorry, Meta…) have cut 11,000 jobs!

Understandably, many marketers are losing confidence in social media. But the question is where are you planning to move your social content and ad spend?

While many marketers are talking about moving to other social media platforms (such as Mastodon?!!) you should be looking at something a little more traditional…

Print and Direct Mail.

Direct mail is Trusted

Over the last two years, direct mail has had somewhat of a resurgence.

There are no cookies. There is no tracking. No one is watching you open your mail.

Direct mail is the tried and trusted method of marketing that is making more impact now than ever, with 87% of consumers viewing mail as believable across all age groups, with overall trust increasing by 12%!

Statistics also show that direct mail drives commercial actions, with 35.2% saying they bought something, or made a payment or donation in response to a piece of direct mail, while 22.6% went online to find out more information!

These statistics come from Market Reach, and you can find out more by visiting their website.

Make an impact with your direct mail

Now, it is not good enough to just be trusted… If you want to make an impact with your direct mail campaigns, you need to make sure it is well executed.

Segment your data effectively and send personalised mail created specifically for your target segment.

Use premium papers to engage the sense of touch. A premium-feeling brochure is going to make more impact than a brochure made from standard paper.

Add embellishments to your print, such as metallic (including colourful metallic hues), white or clear ink to make more impact when your direct mail drops. All of this can now be done via a digital printing press, meaning you can print smaller print runs, in a more targeted way.

Oh, and also avoid having cupboards full of outdated marketing materials, or having thousands of brochures with that annoying typo…

Use Clear Call-To-Actions

Your direct mail relies on a clear aim, and if you want it joined up to the wider marketing campaign, it needs to have a clear call-to-action, too.

Try not to overcomplicate your mail by putting in too many CTA’s, making sure your customers can easily continue their journey in a natural way.

Use QR codes where relevant, but remember not everyone wants to look at your webpage on a phone. Ensure you also include an easy-to-read typed URL for those that are using PC’s, laptops and Macbooks.
